Just gonna talk about some of the interesting elements I plan to implement in my game that I'm working on (one at a time)...
so, first (for no reason, I just thought it up a few seconds ago) I decided to put a "Support Relationship" system that gives the characters a certain bonus to their stats during battle when people they have strong bonds with are also in the battle party; these bonds show as soon as the characters are added to the party and a battle is successfully won with the related characters in the party; once it is "discovered" by the player (though nothing actually shows up on the status menus outside battle, the support only takes effect during battle), it is generally a good idea to keep using those characters as the relationship will "rank up" and status improvements will be more drastic and even new bonuses (like reduced spell-casting time) may be added; all support relationships start at C-rank and improve to B after 50 victories (the battle must be won, cannot have fled and none of the characters involved in the support can be KOed; boss battles do not count), to A after 200 additional victories, and S-rank after 500 more victories, however, only certain formations will give the character an S-rank bonus (these generally involve the people the character personally is closest to in the game); when a character successfully acheives a higher rank the message "___ has increased their support with ___" will appear and a special conversation between the characters will play; ok, so here's the list of who supports who, anyone marked with a * will be able to grant an S-rank bonus; note that earning victories for support rank w/ different characters are cumulative for the different types (couple, trio and full party) and the different characters so if Tati gets a victory and the other party members are Trice, Ash and Rhaan; she'll earn 1 victory towards her couple support from Trice and also from Ash; and 1 victory towards her trio support from Trice and Ash and also from Ash and Rhaan; and finally 1 victory towards the full party support from Trice, Ash and Rhaan...yay! xD (in general, party members who are in the group longer have more support relationships; this is why tati has noticebly more support than ihm or verona)

Tatiyana:

now since i'm a "bad" guy what benefits do we get to counteract this if the "proper" team set up isnt used or leveled? do we get certain bonuses vs. certain PCs? do we get support bonuses if we work together? do we get new abilities for KILLING PCs? /grin

ok, Shock, you might be a npc or somethin...so, lol don't worry; few people (if any) are being left out...and to continue on my Support Relationship system...

Temp Characters
Temporary Characters are actually capable of receiving support from the main characters when they are present in the party with the designated character(s); these supports are capable of being raised to an A-rank and are completly one-sided (they only give bonuses to these temporary characters, not to the main)

Gandhi: Tati

Lily: Trice; Umbra

Oby: Jeauno

Khao: Ash

Nasla: Rhaan; Verona

Enemy Support
The enemy characters also can receive bonuses to their stats either when they're in certain groups with each other or when they encounter certain main or temporary characters in battle; they directly receive certain stat bonuses when fighting the specific characters ("gains strength") and can weaken a coupled bond by one rank when those supports exist ("counters couples"); they are, however, unable to effect the bonds of trios and fully party support as there is strength in numbers, lol

Felix:
Gains Strength when Fighting: Tati; Trice; Umbra; Gandhi; Lily
Counters Couples: Tati and Trice; Trice and Lily

Rekki:
Allied Support: Shoyo; Kimimaru
Gains Strength when Fighting: Umbra
Counters Couples: Umbra and Jeauno; Umbra and Rhaan

Shoyo:
Allied Support: Rekki; Maddy
Gains Strength when Fighting: Umbra

Kimimaru:
Allied Support: Rekki
Counters Couples: Ash and Khao

Delirium:
Gains Strength when Fighting: Tati; Ash; Ihm; Gandhi; Lily
Counters Couples: Tati and Ash; Ihm and Verona

Vincien:
Allied Support: Maddy
Gains Strength when Fighting: Tati; Rhaan

Maddy:
Allied Support: Vincien; Shoyo
Gains Strength when Fighting: Jeauno; Oby

BK:
Counters Couples: Tati and Jeauno; Tati and Ihm; Trice and Umbra; Jeauno and Ihm; Ash and Rhaan; Jeauno and Oby; Verona and Nasla

as stated earlier, the actual benefits of these supports are to be detailed in a later post, thank you xD

Post  Rhaan Thu Apr 03, 2008 9:09 pm

ok...now, I've bashed my head against the wall a few times trying to balance out the techniques and make them relatively cool in general for everyone...this will be slow but I plan to put up the FINAL lists now (so what's going up here is to be assumed as done and going into the game...if I do at anytime make an edit...and odds are I will per requests...I will edit the original post and also make a new post saying just what was edited) ok...here we go!

General Notes
This game is to be an action-style rpg with a battle system similar to that present in the Namco Tales of series of games; during battle, all special techniques are referred to as "Arts" and "Strike Arts" (weapon skills) can be used anytime after a regular attack combination or by themself at the cost of TP (technique points); "Magic Arts" (spells) also consume tp and require the character to charge the spell for a few seconds depending on the strength of the spell (with stronger spells having longer preparation time than weaker ones); Strike Artes can be linked together from Base->Master->Arcane to form long, effective combinations and more damage overall (as each additional hit causes slightly more damage than the previous); all lists detail the arts from as low as lv 1 as all party members join at the average level of all members and if for whatever reason no experience was ever gained, it is possible to end the game w/ lv 1 characters (highly challenging, but not impossible)...oh, and I have not yet confirmed the tp cost of all arts so for the moment, that detail will be omitted

Tatiyana:
Weapon: English-style Rapier

Standard Moves:
regular (attack button, no directional input) combo 1-Tati slashes from right to left
2-Tati slashes from left to right
3-Tati turns and slashes from top to bottom
advancing (attack button + left, right direction) combo- Tati does a total of 3 sword strikes with the final being a thrust after a slight pause (does not push enemy back on contact)
Low (attack button + down) combo- Tati does two stabs against her enemy while thrusting with the tip of her sword pointed at a 60 degree angle
Rising (attack button + up) combo- Tati jumps slightly and swings her sword arm in a wide arc, lifting the enemy into the air and/or striking an aerial enemy, then hits the enemy again as her arm comes back around before landing
Midair (attack button in mid-jump) attack- Tati does a downwards slash before landing from her jump

Strike Arts:
Tati's strike arts are a mix of moves similar to that of Stahn Aileron (Tales of Destiny), Leon Magnus (Tales of Destiny), Kratos Aurion (Tales of Symphonia) and Chloe Valens (Tales of Legendia)...therefore, she's quite skilled at swordfighting! A number of her more advanced techniques also deal elemental damage so while her overall physical damage output isn't as high as Trice, Umbra nor Ihm, she can still cause reliable damage time and again with her myriad of sword techniques

okay...it's a little hard to come up w/ normal attacks for some odd reason lol; so for now I will simply mark them as "in progress" lol; anyway, the order the techniques are listed are simply in the order in which I finish their move lists, I will get around to everyone's techs in time (I happend to do tati's first, no particular reason other than the fact that she's the first character available)

Ash:
Weapon: Dagger

Standard Moves:
IN PROGRESS!!

Strike Arts:
Ash's strike arts are a mix of techniques mainly from Suzu Fujibayashi (Tales of Phantasia), Rutee Katrea (Tales of Destiny), Jay (Tales of Legendia) and the thief class in Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology; they are a mix of rapid striking and agile techniques common amongst lithe fighters who are experts at gathering information and treasure hunting. Ash, like Trice, Umbra and Ihm, possesses no magic arts but likewise, has an exstensive list of strike arts (which unlike spells are instant, no charging required).

Bomb Toss-default-base
Ash throws a bomb that explodes when it hits either the enemy or the ground. (Fire Elemental)

Gold Digger-default-base
Ash inspects the ground at his feet and if he finds any money, hurls it into the air, hitting any enemy nearby. (the $ earned by this is low but it can be used as long as Ash has tp and unlimited amount of times; though it may fail on occasion)

Gleaming Dagger-LV4-base
Ash throws a kunai at his enemy that shines as it flies through the air at high speed.

Fang Rush-LV6-base
Ash quickly rushes his enemy and stabs them.

Snipe Air-LV8-base
Ash jumps into the air with a rising slash, then divebombs his enemy with a strong thrust.

Azure Edge-LV10-base
Ash swings his dagger and sends a blue, piercing protectile at his enemy.

Item Thief-LV12-base
Ash swipes at his enemy, knocking them down with a powerful hit. (if succesful, steals an item from the enemy)

Nocturnal Light-LV14-base
Ash throws three daggers simultaneously at his enemy.

Storm Blade-LV16-base
Ash does a fancy flurry of slashes by spinning his dagger around his hand as he swings his weapon.

Crow Blade-LV18-base
Ash suddenly appears above his enemy, falling down and catching them off guard with a spinning attack.

Kawarimi-LV20-base
Ash vanishes in a cloud of smoke and after a second, reappears in midair.

Moonlight Raven-LV21-master
Ash attacks with two horizantal slashes and a roundhouse kick that pushes his enemy back.

Fury Blast-LV22-master
Ash focuses his spirit to knock the enemy down with a sudden explosion.

Pyre-LV23-master
Ash plants his dagger firmly in the ground then performs ninjutsu to call a wall of fire suddenly erupting beneath his weapon, burning enemies and sending the weapon flying back to its owner. (Fire Elemental)

Brutal Earth-LV24-master
Similar to Pyre, except several stone spikes rise from the ground. (Earth Elemental)

Ice Storm-LV25-master
Similar to Pyre, except a wall of ice rises from the ground. (Ice Elemental)

Merciless Thunder-LV26-master
Similar to Pyre, except lightning bolts rain down. (Lightning Elemental)

Slash Rain-LV27-master
Ash jumps up and sends freezing rain pouring from the tip of his blade down onto his enemy. (Water Elemental)

Snipe Roar-LV28-master
Ash dashes forward, then does a diagonal backwards dash into the air; slicing his enemy during the process.

Ghost Blade-LV29-base
Ash focuses his spirit and his movement speed is temporarily quickened.

Cyclone Seal-LV30-master
Ash calls a ring of wind energy that violently explodes after a second, lifting his enemy into the air. (Air Elemental)

Bomb Rain-LV31-master
Ash throws several bombs at his enemy that all explode when they make contact. (Fire Elemental)

Dark Cloud-LV32-master
Ash quickly does a sliding dash towards his enemy and kicks their legs out from under them; knocking them down.

Severed Fate-LV33-arcane
Ash jumps into the air and throws three daggers, which create a damaging force field when they pierce the ground.

Flare Raid-LV34-master
Ash backflips into the air and throws three exploding daggers at his enemy. (Fire Elemental)

Inlay Nocturne-LV35-master
A large stone materializes in front of Ash who shatters it with thrown daggers, sending them and rocks flying at his enemies. (Earth Elemental)

Azure Storm-LV36-arcane
A combination of Storm Blade & Azure Edge.

Violet Surge-LV38-arcane
Ash rushes past his enemies and once he stops, a large void of purple energy appears from the air that he ripped a hole through and burns them.

Dark Rush Fury-LV40-arcane
A combination of Fang Rush, Moonlight Raven and Fury Blast.

Item Rover-LV42-arcane
Ash swipes at his enemy, knocking them down with a more powerful hit. (if successful, steals both items and a small amount of $ from the enemy)

Burning Crow-LV44-arcane
Ash suddenly appears in midair and surprises his enemy with a flaming, spinning attack. (Fire Elemental)

Bomb Devastation-LV46-arcane
Ash throws a bomb at his enemy then suddenly rushes past them, stabbing them, and drops several more bombs at their feet. (Fire Elemental)

Samadhi-LV47-arcane
Ash focuses his spirit into all parts of his body, temporaily making him unable to be staggered by enemy attacks.

Raptor's Prey-LV48-arcane
Ash knocks the enemy into the air while spinning and then dives through them in midair.

Sparrow Hawk-LV50-arcane
Ash does a handstand, windmill kick that resembles breakdancing.

Fatal Circle-LV52-arcane
Ash performs Severed Fate, however this time an ancient rune calls forth a powerful stream of burning light. (Light Elemental)

Quasi Seal-LV55-arcane
Ash performs Cyclone Seal, however the explosion of air now is a burst of heat energy. (Fire Elemental)

Hawk Talon-LV58-arcane
Ash does Sparrow Hawk and finishes by flying into the air like a helicopter and throws exploding daggers at surrounding enemies. (Fire Elemental)

Fallen Idol-LV60-arcane
Ash dashes back and forth through the enemy several times, cutting deep into them.

Bloody Rose-LV62-arcane
Ash rapidly stabs and cuts the enemy and, in doing so, lets loose a large boquet of their blood into the air.

Mystic Arts:
Nine Seals (Physical) LV15
Ash repeatedly vanishes with a cloud of smoke as he stabs the enemy from all directions.

Trickster (Physical) LV35
Ash knocks the enemy into the air, dashes through them several times and finishes by calling forth an explosion of gold coins. (the party earns $ when this art is used)

Midare Fubuki (Ice Elemental/Physical) LV60
4 snowmen appear arround the enemy then burst to reveal copies of Ash who slices through his enemy multiple times before spinning around and re-merging with the copies as a stream of frigid air blasts the enemy.

Demon's Rising (Dark Elemental/Physical+Magical) Sidequest
Several black feathers fall down before two black wings burst out of Ash's back, who suddenly lifts his enemy into the air with a very fast series of slashes and finishes them with a wave of dark energy.

woo! another character done (more or less)

I dunno Shock, you'll probably be neutral lol...moving on...

Rhaan:
Weapon: Staff

Standard Moves:
IN PROGRESS!

Strike Arts:
Rhaan is hardly a melee character by any means (in fact, he causes the least physical damage of all main characters); but he does posess a few techniques for certain situations.

Power Seal-LV8-base
Rhaan pulls out a blue sutra and smacks the enemy with it, cursing them and lowering their physical strength by 20%.

Same as Power Seal Pinion, except it is done with serpent seals, thereby lowering the enemy's physical defense by 30% altogether.

Purgatory Seal-LV46-arcane
Rhaan holds out a shimmering sutra, which magically resurrects an ally's spirit, letting them move & fight with 0 hp. plot is being worked on gradually...expect to see some story details revealed later in a topic discussing sidequests and/or sub-events...

Jeauno:
Weapon: Various (mainly fights using kicks and punches but occasionally wields different weapons)

(updated; still incomplete)

Standard Moves:
IN PROGRESS!

Strike Arts:
Jeauno's strike arts are mostly hand-to-hand attacks borrowed from Farah Orstead (Tales of Eternia) and Senel Coolidge (Tales of Legendia) though she occasionally uses attacks involving chakrams and frypans like Colette Brunel (Tales of Symphonia) and Lilith Aileron (Tales of Destiny).

Shadow Rush-LV4-base
Jeauno does a quick dash and punches her enemy.

Ray Thrust-LV6-base
Jeauno throws a single chakram at her enemy.

Pow Hammer-LV8-base
Jeauno throws a toy hammer at her enemy.

Kick Rock-LV10-base
Jeauno shakes a rock off her body and kicks it at her enemy.

Swallow Dance-LV14-base
Jeauno does rapid spinning kicks in the air.

Eagle Dive-LV16-base
Jeauno falls quickly in mid-air to catch her enemy off guard. (can be linked after Swallow Dance and can still link master->arcane after this tech).

Ray Satellite-LV18-master
Jeauno throws a chakram and holds it in orbit, allowing it to hit them several times.

Rainbow Arch-LV26-master
Jeauno pulls out a frying pan and lashes forward, smacking her enemy with a rainbow that appears out of nowhere.

Pow Pow Hammer-LV28-master
Jeauno throws a toy hammer that becomes giantic and smashes the enemy it falls upon.

Talon Storm-LV30-arcane
Jeauno rapidly kicks with one leg while balancing on the other.

Dragon Shot-LV32-master
Jeauno does a strong uppercut that sends the enemy flying.

Phantom Dragon Dance-LV34-arcane
Jeauno does a graceful series of attacks and finishes with a strong punch that knocks the enemy down.

Awakening Song-LV36-master
Jeuno pulls out a frypan and hits a ladle against it, damaging enemies with the noise produced.

Super Swallow Dance-LV40-arcane
Jeauno kicks the enemy into the air, aided by gusts of wind that rip through the enemy during the attack. (Air Elemental)

Eagle Rage-LV44-arcane
Jeauno floats in mid-air and does a series of kicks, shooting searing energy beams at her foe. (can be linked after Super Swallow Dance)

Grand Chariot-LV46-arcane
Jeauno throws a chakram at her enemy and a bolt of lightning smites them when it hits them. (Lightning Elemental)

Flambe'-LV48-master
Jeauno smacks the enemy with an intensely hot frypan and fire shoots out and sends them skyward. (Fire Elemental)

Happy Light-LV50-arcane
Jeauno feels lucky! She throws out some dice and magic beams rain down around her, damaging enemies and raising the luck and a random attribute of any nearby allies.

Hammer Rain-LV52-arcane
Jeauno throws a sphere of light into the air that explodes, letting numerous toy hammers smack the enemy silly.

Stardust Cross-LV54-arcane
Jeauno throws a chakram at her enemy as a stream of stardust appears and strikes them.

Wyrm Rush-LV60-arcane
Jeauno rushes the enemy, unleashes a rapid series of punches, and knocks them to the ground with a strong hit.

Mana Cannon-LV68-arcane
Jeauno calls forth a large, piercing beam of energy and releases it upon her enemy.

Dances:
Jeauno's dances offer great support to the party and like strike arts, require no time to charge, however she is unable to do anything else until she either guards or gets attacked by an enemy's combo (single hits do not phase her, regardless of damage dealt unless the attack would kill her).

Tango-default
Jeauno captivates her enemy by performing the tango, damaging any enemy in the way (prevents all enemies from moving but does not stop their attacks)

Salsa-LV12
Jeauno performs the salsa, inspiring her allies and raising their attack gradually overtime (1% increase every 5 seconds, effect is cumulative)

Disco-LV42
Jeauno does a modern, unusual dance and lowers her enemies' attack power and magic attack power as they are unable to concentrate. (1% decrease every 7 seconds, stacks both the attack and magic attack strength decrease; also extends enemy spellcasting time by 10%)

umm...seriously, you think I'm that stupid? no one would ever have patience to play a game similar to ffxi...you know, considering how frustrating the game (ffxi) is to begin with lol, no, the closest games that this project of mine are similar to is the "Tales of..." series by Namco-Bandai; in other words, expect a dynamic, multiplayer battle system with an epic storyline detailing the exploits/lives of the characters; because the characters are based off people I know, all events occuring during the game are ficticious and in no way to be taken as fact in terms of the people involved...I kinda tried to make this clear in all my previous topics concerning this (seriously, do people really READ this stuff? lol, you make me wonder Shock)

It's been a LONG while since I put anything up here hasn't it? well, while my internet browser is temporarily cooperating with me, and for convenience, here's vids actually showcasing characters' techniques;

all of Ihm's techs (save for a few involving his wyvern in the first game) are from Eugene in Tales of Rebirth:

Translations:

- Senpuusou Storm Thrust
- Rekkusou Impale
- Gouhasou Roaring Spear
- Shunjinsou Sonic Spear
- Tenraisou Thunder Lance
- Messhousou Falling Lance
- Ren Koutaisou Iron Stance
- Ren Kyoumeidan Mirror Stance
- Reppuu Jinsoushou Cyclone Surge
- Goubaku Senpuuga Roaring Storm
- Goubaku Jinsoushou Roaring Surge
- Reppuu Shunjinsatsu Cyclone Gale
- Shunsatsu Jinsoushou Fatal Surge
- Reppuu Bakuraijin Cyclone Thunder
- Ressou Bakuraijin Goring Thunder
- Shunsatsu Goushougeki Fatal Roar
- Ressou Tenshougeki Goring Descent
- Messatsu Senpuuga Falling Storm
- Jinrai Goushougeki Thunder Roar
- Goubaku Tenshougeki Roaring Descent
- Jinrai Tenshougeki Thunder Descent
- Jinrai Shunjinsatsu Thunder Gale
- Shunsatsu Tenshougeki Fatal Descent

Evva's skills for her character in the second game are from Mao, also from the same game:

Ver's archery skills (and some of Tati's sword skills) come from Woodrow in Tales of Destiny which you can witness here as he solos the game's final boss:

(the first big attack belongs to Tati, the second one that appears is Ver's and the very last skill used is for Rekki)
